Impossible Crystals
December 31, 2024
In its special exhibition “The Impossible Crystal”, the Munich Show in 2024 presented a breathtaking collection of extraordinary crystals that challenged both the boundaries of science and the imagination of visitors.
In the special exhibition “The Impossible Crystal”, the formation of the seemingly surreal shapes of many minerals was vividly explained. Visitors could embark on a journey through the scientific principles of crystallography and learn how atoms and molecules form into the precise structures we admire as crystals. However, the exhibition went beyond the usual specimens and showed how nature produces crystals under special conditions that completely contradict conventional ideas. Amazing, surprising and inspiring aspects of the world of minerals were highlighted in twelve themed sections. A particular highlight are the so-called “impossible crystals”, whose shapes and colors have long puzzled even experts, such as the star-shaped cumengeite crystals.
The accompanying themed book is still available in our online store.
