A highlight for meteorite fans

Germany’s latest meteorite case will not only be hotly discussed at the Meteorite Experts’ Meeting at the Munich Show, visitors can look forward to admiring the three original fragments found so far live.
Meteorites are rare and valuable witnesses to the birth of our solar system 4.6 billion years ago. The meteorite fall, which occurred on April 25, 2023 in the afternoon over the northern German city of Elmshorn (Schleswig-Holstein), is a true stroke of luck for the finders of the meteorite pieces and also for planetary researchers.
To find the highly interesting and rare sky stones, these must be searched usually laboriously. But since in the Elmshorn case fragments hit two house roofs and further fragments landed in gardens, the stone meteorites could be found quickly and examined by expert scientists immediately after the fall.
In the special show 2023 at the Munich Show the Elmshorn finds will be shown publicly for the first time. In the meteorite expert meeting, planetary scientists will present their current scientific results on this exciting “case”.
