A Glimpse into the Past
July 8, 2025
A journey into the world of millions of years of Earth's history
When the doors of the Munich Show open at the end of October, a journey begins into a world that existed long before our time and yet is deeply interwoven with our present. Especially in the fossil area, a fascinating journey through time unfolds, inspiring our imagination and bringing science to life.
Because what we see there are not just fossilized remains. They are witnesses to a distant past, snapshots of life as it existed hundreds of millions of years ago. Trilobites with their filigree segments, snail-shaped ammonites or the rare find of a dinosaur skeleton: they all tell stories of evolutionary development, of extinct habitats and the constant change of our planet.
Fossils: a window into prehistoric times
Although billions and billions of creatures once roamed the earth, only a tiny fraction of them have been preserved as fossils. Every specimen that has been preserved over geological time is therefore a precious treasure - both scientifically and aesthetically. The Munich Show offers the unique opportunity not only to marvel at these witnesses of prehistoric times, but also to get up close to them.
From impressive dinosaur bones to fossilized shark teeth or detailed fish fossils, the variety is breathtaking. Morocco in particular is considered one of the richest regions in terms of finds, but treasures from South America, Asia and the famous Altmühltal valley in Bavaria - home to the legendary Archaeopteryx - will also find their way into the public eye at the Munich Show.
Meeting place for science, trade and passion
The Munich Show is an annual highlight for collectors, dealers and palaeontologists. After the summer's excavation campaigns, new finds are presented here, findings are discussed and prospects for future discoveries are ventured. Excitement and curiosity are already in the air during the set-up phase, when new fossil boxes are opened and the first glimpses of extraordinary pieces are revealed.
Fascination that goes far beyond fossils
But the Munich Show is not just about fossils. It is also a showcase for spectacular minerals and gemstones. Under special geological conditions, crystalline marvels were formed over millions of years from the same chemical elements that we are made of. Discovering them requires a spirit of research, scientific know-how and often a sense of adventure.
Experience prehistoric times up close
The Munich Show opens the door to a world that amazes us. Whether you are a passionate collector, a curious novice or simply fascinated by the history of our planet: The fossil area of the Munich Show offers an experience that excites and inspires.
