Special Exhibition at the Munich Show 2026

Special Exhibition: The Pioneers of the Mineral Market

April 28, 2026

In 2026, the Munich Show will present “The Pioneers of the Mineral Market,” a special exhibition that offers an extraordinary and high-caliber showcase, revealing the international mineral market for the first time as what it truly is: a fascinating tapestry of people, ideas, discoveries, and visions. The focus is not only on outstanding specimens, but above all on those pioneers who, over generations, created the structures through which minerals are collected, researched, traded, and admired today.

A vibrant panorama of this world unfolds across ten impressively presented chapters. Visitors embark on a journey from the major trading hubs in Tucson or Munich, through the influential world of trade journals, books, and digital platforms, to museums, universities, collectors, and dealers. It is the story of a market that did not arise by chance, but was shaped by passion, knowledge, and entrepreneurial courage.

The exhibition traces the journey of a mineral in a particularly compelling way: from its discovery at legendary sites, through modern “specimen mining,” to preparation, photography, and presentation—those crucial steps that transform a natural find into a coveted collector’s item. The significance of provenance, auctions, and publications also becomes clear: for the true value of a mineral lies not only in its beauty, but also in its history.

The special exhibition is being created in collaboration with the renowned trade magazine Lapis, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026. In doing so, the Munich Show pays tribute to one of the most influential media outlets in the European collecting scene, which has disseminated knowledge, highlighted discovery sites, and inspired generations of collectors over the decades.

“The Pioneers of the Mineral Market” uniquely combines science, commerce, aesthetics, and history into an exhibition experience that is as informative as it is captivating, placing the people and ideas that have shaped the fascinating world of minerals at the center.
